Judge orders Waymo to stop overnight charging in Santa Monica after noise complaints

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge granted Santa Monica's motion for a preliminary injunction, ordering Waymo to cease overnight charging operations at two lots that neighbors say cause noise, light, and traffic problems. The order prohibits use between 11 pm and 6 am.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Bradley S. Phillips granted the City of Santa Monica's motion for a preliminary injunction in a public nuisance lawsuit against Waymo. Residents and city officials complained that constant vehicle flow at the charging stations causes light and sound pollution and traffic congestion. One neighbor described the incessant 'beep beep beep' sound of autonomous vehicles backing out as disturbing day and night. Under the order, Waymo is forbidden from operating charging lots on Broadway at 12th and Euclid Streets between 11 pm and 6 am. The lots are across from a private school and near residences. Neighbors report noticeable improvement since the order took effect.
