AI promised hiring growth: in Russia the effect was not confirmed

In the US, firms adopting generative AI hire faster than competitors. The author tried to replicate this in Russia using data from thousands of companies, but found no positive effect on hiring. Instead, AI adoption in Russia is associated with financial slack: richer companies hire both people and AI, while poorer ones use AI as a substitute for human workers.
