The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced a ban on importing 'advanced robotic devices' and power inverters from foreign countries, particularly targeting Chinese manufacturers. The ban includes mobile robots such as humanoid and quadruped models, and applies to devices that can locomote, avoid obstacles, and have network connectivity, weighing over 4.4 pounds. It will affect Chinese robot makers and leading inverter producers Sungrow and Huawei. The ban cites 'unacceptable risks to national security.' Companies can apply for waivers but must provide plans to manufacture in the US. Existing devices are not subject to the ban, and updates are allowed through January 1, 2029. Non-Chinese suppliers are expected to be exempt.
