Twitch lets users opt out of Amazon AI training on their content

Twitch has updated its support page to confirm that users can opt out of Amazon's use of their 'streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and pictures and text on your channel' for future training of Amazon's generative AI models. To opt out, users must navigate to www.twitch.tv/settings/security. The support page explains that allowing training means content may be used for future Gen AI model improvements; for example, audio could refine speech-to-text models, improving captions on Twitch and across Amazon. Users are automatically opted in and have been for at least a couple of years. At an event held by The Information in 2024, Twitch's chief monetization officer at the time, Mike Minton, confirmed Amazon uses Twitch for AI training, saying 'Yeah, for sure' and noting that it is within user trust and privacy regulations.
