TSMC is using AI and virtual reality to accelerate the construction of a new fab for its 1.4nm A14 process. Completion is expected by April 2027, allowing volume production to start in 2028, ahead of rivals Samsung and Intel.
TSMC is building a new fab in Taichung, Taiwan, for its 1.4nm A14 process. The company is using AI for image recognition and intelligent control, and VR for training workers in high-altitude and hazardous situations. This has accelerated the second phase of construction, with completion expected by April 2027. TSMC plans to start volume production of A14 in 2028, giving it a time advantage over Samsung and Intel. Compared to the 2nm N2 process, A14 offers up to 15% higher performance at the same power or 30% lower power at the same performance, with 20% higher logic density.
