SpaceX has completed the acquisition of Cursor, an AI-powered programming tools startup, in a deal valued at $60 billion. The transaction, effective August 14, two months after the initial agreement, positions SpaceX's founder Elon Musk to better compete with AI leaders like Anthropic and OpenAI. Cursor, which launched its programming assistant in 2023, became one of the fastest-growing startups amid the rise of 'vibe coding.' Post-deal, Cursor's co-founders become billionaires, and employees gain access to SpaceX's AI accelerator inventory. In July, SpaceX and Cursor jointly released the Grok 4.5 model, followed by the Grok Bot app and Grok 4.6. SpaceX has also signed multi-billion-dollar agreements with Anthropic and Google for computing resources. In August, Musk told employees that AI is the company's future, predicting AI revenues would surpass all other SpaceX revenue by September.
