Nubia announced a smartphone with an AI assistant based on a proprietary large language model running on the device. Stepfun (the company behind the Step-2 model) also announced partnerships with manufacturers to embed its models into smartphones. Honor, for its part, is integrating an AI agent into its devices, emphasizing on-device data processing to enhance privacy. The competition is unfolding on three fronts: the models themselves (their size and performance), hardware (NPU chips), and applications—each player is striving to take a leading position in the AI smartphone market.
