OpenAI has removed limits on text chats for all ChatGPT users. The new default models are GPT-5.6 Luna for Free and Go users, and GPT-5.6 Sol for Plus and Pro, which promise fewer factual errors.
OpenAI has announced the removal of text chat limits for all ChatGPT users. As a result, ChatGPT Free and Go users will now have the GPT-5.6 Luna model as default, replacing GPT-5.5. A new 'Think' feature will allow the chatbot to use a higher level of logical reasoning for complex questions. File, image, voice, and image generation remain subject to separate limits. Plus and Pro subscribers will get access to an improved GPT-5.6 Sol model, which is better suited for quick tasks, web searches, advice, planning, writing, and decision-making, delivering more compact and reliable answers. This version of GPT-5.6 Sol is different from the one used in Codex and Work services. Additionally, Plus and Pro users can adjust the thinking time via a slider. According to OpenAI's internal evaluation, GPT-5.6 Luna shows 62% fewer factual errors than GPT-5.5 Instant, and GPT-5.6 Sol shows 68% fewer. The updated GPT-5.6 Sol is available to Plus and Pro today, while Free and Go users will get the changes by the end of the week, with unlimited text chats and the 'Think' button available next week.
