NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang visited the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey to commission an NVIDIA DGX GB300 supercomputer, bringing massive AI computing power to the U.S. military's flagship graduate university. The system will support over 1,500 students and 600 faculty in AI research and education, including weather prediction, cybersecurity, and disaster resilience.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang traveled to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, to commission an NVIDIA DGX GB300 supercomputer, making one of the world's most powerful AI platforms available to the U.S. military's premier graduate university. The system, paired with NVIDIA Mission Control software, gives more than 1,500 resident students and 600 faculty on-premises access to large-scale AI computing for model training and inference, with applications in weather prediction, cybersecurity, and disaster response. The commissioning took place during NPS's Converge @ NPS event, part of an ongoing collaboration to develop AI technologies for education and real-world use. Admiral Samuel Paparo, commander of U.S. Pacific Command, emphasized the need for modernized leadership education. The DGX GB300 enables NPS to train foundation models in-house, run high-fidelity simulations, and develop practical AI tools. NVIDIA also expanded its collaboration through the Deep Learning Institute. NPS runs hackathons that have produced advances in autonomy, ocean research, and operations planning, and researchers use AI to model sea conditions, predict atmospheric changes, and build digital twins. The system was deployed with partners DDN, VAST Data, and Vertiv, providing high-performance data infrastructure, unified data platforms, and cooling and power infrastructure.
