Nothing may shift focus from smartphones to AI devices

Nothing, known for its unconventional smartphones, is shifting priority toward AI devices and will allocate fewer resources to smartphones, as revealed by CEO Carl Pei to Smartprix. The company confirmed layoffs reported earlier, citing difficulties in surviving memory shortages and declining sales. However, Nothing will not abruptly stop making traditional products; it has several devices in development: the Nothing Smartwatch, CMF Ear Clip Buds, Nothing Headphones (Gen 2), and CMF Speakers. Images of these devices show Nothing's characteristic design, along with an unidentified gadget. Previously, Nothing announced plans for a software platform called Essential, based on an AI model, which would let users generate app code on demand, unlike Nothing OS. The platform is scheduled for release in 2027, while new traditional devices are expected in the coming months.
