Meta reports nearly $700 billion in future spending commitments for AI data centers and cloud computing

Meta revealed in a regulatory filing that it has approximately $700 billion in future spending commitments related to AI data centers and cloud computing. The company has $349.3 billion in irrevocable contract commitments, mainly for third-party cloud service agreements, servers, and network infrastructure. Additionally, Meta has $347 billion in lease commitments that have not yet started and are not reflected on the balance sheet. In July alone, $68 billion in new commitments were added, with payments beginning in 2027 and 2028. These costs are in addition to existing active leases and cover data centers, hosting facilities, and some network infrastructure. Meanwhile, Amazon reported strong Q2 2026 financial results, with total net sales of $200.6 billion, up 20% year-over-year, and AWS cloud service net sales of $42.2 billion, up 37% year-over-year, the fastest growth in nearly 18 quarters.
