Honor MagicOS 11 Reveals Dual Architecture for Liquid Glass Design

At the MagicOS 11 Pioneer Preview held in Beijing on August 6, Honor officially disclosed the technical underpinnings of its liquid glass design for Android, introducing the Honor Liuguang Architecture and Honor Hummingbird Architecture. The design, led by MagicOS design director Wang Qian, evolves from the previous frosted texture to a dynamic liquid glass material, featuring real-time refraction and light effects on lock screen and desktop widgets. The system introduces industry-first dynamic liquid glass, with interactions such as music lock screen, charging capsule, and incoming call buttons displaying fluid animations. The Liuguang Architecture reconstructs the Android graphics stack with a self-developed material engine, achieving six atomic effects (refraction, blur, highlights, outline, shadow, filter) with over 40 adjustable parameters, while minimizing power consumption. The Hummingbird Architecture, developed with Zhejiang University, integrates a game-level rigid body physics engine into UI animations, delivering jelly-like tactile feedback. It runs animations on independent threads, reducing power consumption by 8% and improving stability by over 10%, with overall fluency improved by 20% across all models. The system supports third-party app adaptation via a transparency engine, reducing developer integration time to 1-2 days, with over ten common apps already adapted. MagicOS 11 starts closed beta registration on August 6, 2026, for Magic 7, Magic 8 and other devices, with full rollout plans to be announced at the official MagicOS 11 launch.
