Instead, Google has released 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite, and 3.5 Flash Cyber, but these models lag behind competitors in complex reasoning, coding, and agent tasks. Amid internal turmoil, including the departure of key AI leaders and the transition of Demis Hassabis to a chairman role, Google co-founder Sergey Brin has reportedly become deeply involved again in Gemini strategic discussions, although he holds no formal management position. Brin's return signals urgency, as Google faces intense competition from OpenAI and Anthropic. However, a central issue highlighted by SemiAnalysis is Google's compute allocation: it sells over 20% of its TPU shipments to Anthropic between Q3 2026 and Q4 2027, prioritizing cloud revenue over its own frontier model ambitions.
