Chinese tech giants move AI model training overseas to evade US sanctions

Chinese tech giants are relocating AI model training to foreign data centers to circumvent US sanctions that restrict their access to advanced chips. ByteDance, the owner of Doubao, is training an AI model on Oracle's data centers in the US. Xiaomi is also exploring similar strategies. To avoid detection, these companies are using proxy servers and offshore accounts when purchasing cloud services from US providers like Oracle, AWS, and Google Cloud. The move allows them to access high-performance Nvidia GPUs, which are otherwise restricted for Chinese entities. Despite the sanctions, Chinese companies see this as a necessary step to stay competitive in AI development.
