Apple seeks preliminary injunction against OpenAI, claims more ex-employees may have taken data

Apple is now seeking a preliminary injunction in its trade secrets case against OpenAI, aiming to stop the AI model maker from developing products based on Apple's technology. In a new filing, Apple requests expedited discovery from accused OpenAI employees Chang Liu and Tang Yew Tan, as well as OpenAI and its foundation, and the device startup co-founded by Jony Ive. Apple's continued investigation has revealed 11 other former Apple employees beyond Liu and Tan who may have been witnesses or involved. The filing mentions examples such as a former employee meeting with Liu and Peng before her interview at OpenAI, and another taking screenshots of confidential Apple documents before an interview. After Apple filed the complaint, multiple former employees now at OpenAI reached out about returning Apple-issued devices. Apple believes it has good cause to suspect others are involved and is pushing for expedited discovery. OpenAI responded publicly, calling the request 'based on false information and completely unnecessary' and stating they do not have or want any of Apple's trade secrets. OpenAI also pointed to earlier mistakes by Apple, including emailing the wrong person due to name confusion and alleged misrepresentations about discussions with its general counsel.
