Anthropic remains the only one not to sign Huang's open initiative

Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, published an open letter calling for support of open-weight models, which he believes are critically important for a healthy AI ecosystem. The initiative was initially backed by about 25 companies and organizations, but soon grew to over 70. Signatories include Microsoft (CEO Satya Nadella voiced support), OpenAI, and prominent researchers such as Yann LeCun. The only major company that refused to sign the initiative was Anthropic. In response to the pressure, one Anthropic employee, Julian Schrittwieser, who previously worked on AlphaGo and Gemini at Google DeepMind, ironically suggested opening the source code of CUDA and Windows, then the Windows operating system and MS Office, which sparked sharp criticism in the community. Andrew Ng defended Huang, stating that everyone has the right not to open their code, and the real problem is attempts to forbid others from opening code. Analysts note that the initiative could benefit Nvidia, as the proliferation of open models will increase demand for computing resources, strengthening the company's position. Meanwhile, the restaurant chain Denny's joined the initiative, stating that like Nvidia, it believes in "openness" (open 24/7 operation).
