Alibaba Cloud enters Gartner's Observability Magic Quadrant 'Challengers' as the sole vendor in Asia-Pacific

Gartner published its 2026 Magic Quadrant for Observability Platforms report, in which Alibaba Cloud entered the Challengers quadrant for the first time, becoming the only Asia-Pacific vendor included. The achievement is attributed to Alibaba Cloud's unified observability data platform CMS 2.0 and its global intelligent operations platform STAROps, which allow AI agents to autonomously complete the entire operations workflow — from root cause analysis to closed-loop remediation — 24/7. As enterprise-scale agent applications proliferate, observability has evolved from a passive troubleshooting tool into core infrastructure that proactively drives business resilience. CMS 2.0 integrates previously independent services (cloud monitoring CMS, log service SLS, and application real-time monitoring ARMS) into a unified observability platform, using the UModel data model to correlate metrics, logs, and traces, thus reducing operational complexity. On top of CMS 2.0, STAROps provides enterprise-grade features such as RAM permission control, human confirmation for high-risk operations, agent behavior auditing, and end-to-end encryption. Organizations can build custom SRE agents via STAROps, which itself functions as an agent running on Alibaba Cloud infrastructure, orchestrating complex cross-domain operations. Alibaba Cloud's observability services now cover Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, supporting OpenTelemetry data ingestion, and STAROps is available on the Qoder Desktop plugin marketplace.
