Nick Suresh shares observations on how AI hysteria hinders rational decisions in large companies. Anecdotes from anonymous sources show that executives admit to not using AI yet build strategies around it, and engineers rewrite code in Zig to keep their jobs.
Nick Suresh describes how AI hysteria is paralyzing decision-making at large companies. In one case, an executive admitted he had never used ChatGPT, yet presented a strategy for a company with over $2 billion in revenue that was entirely based on AI. An engineer at a company with an internal AI leaderboard said he was secretly rewriting a Go repository in Zig in order not to lose his job. A skeptical manager at a company overflowing with enthusiasm found that no one objected to absurd promises of 100x productivity gains, because refuting them would undermine the client's authority and lead to canceled contracts and layoffs.
