At its Advancing AI conference in San Francisco, AMD CEO Lisa Su unveiled Helios, a rack-scale AI system aimed at competing with Nvidia's Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell systems. Helios combines multiple processors into a single high-powered unit for data centers, targeting the training and deployment of large AI models. AMD claims Helios is the 'highest-performance AI rack' and beats Nvidia's Vera Rubin on several metrics. The system already has notable customers: Microsoft plans to expand its Azure infrastructure with Helios, Anthropic and AMD announced a partnership to deploy up to two gigawatts of GPUs, and OpenAI, Meta, and Oracle have also committed to using the system. Additionally, AMD introduced the Venice-X CPU, designed for high-computing workloads in data centers, expected to launch in 2027. Su forecasted that the AI accelerator market could reach $1.4 trillion by 2030, with GPUs expected to make up the majority of that market.
